Why you should wear a white button down shirt Spring ’23

The white button down shirt is a trend this Spring and I am going to break down the top 3 reasons you should jump on this trend and how to pick the one that is right for you.

One of the top trends this Spring Season is the white button down.  This classic is never out of style but it is having a moment and is EVERYWHERE!! With so many styles of this seemingly simple shirt how do you know how to pick the right one?  

I’ve got the low down on the best white button downs out there and which one(s) you need!

First, I want to introduce you to the shirt that is a must have- The SPANX white button down.  This one is amazing and has stretch to it.  Isn’t see through and has a sewn down placket to prevent gaps- great under sweaters and blazer, chic on its own.

Next, let’s chat about relaxed elegance.  I love a white button down and jeans.  Looking for one of the oversized options out there will help you achieve that chic look.  One of the important elements to this look is to accessorize- subtly. A layered necklace like this one from Kendra Scott, a great handbag, like these from Madewell and easy sandals or lifestyle sneakers like the New Balance 367 or Golden Goose are great choices to level up the style in a casual, chic way.

Next up the fitted blouse, we talked about the version from SPANX to start with but these 2 options one from Talbots at under $100 and The version from The_shirt company has tons of features that make it worth the investment. Fitted button downs are great if you are layering them under sweaters or blazers to create less bulk.

Which one do you pick? Here are my top 3 tips!

1. Know your body shape- this is key to having this look chic and not sloppy.  Understanding your shape will help you determine, do you need darts? Should it have a front pocket, should it end at the hip or go a bit farther.  Knowing your shape makes this easy!
2. How are you going to wear this?  Are you wearing it to work under sweaters or blazer OR are you going for a more relaxed look and wearing it untucked?

3. Know the fabric.  This is important if you want to easily grab and go.  If you hate to iron a 100% cotton is going to drive you bananas because you will have to iron or dry clean this to keep the wrinkles at bay.  Are you modest and don’t want the shirt to have a sheerness to it, which can happen with white blouses.  If that is the case, I recommend a more expensive blouse or a cami in your skin color ( not generic nude and definitely not white!) to wear underneath.
