What to Wear for the Royal Ceremony?

If you know me, you know I love anything British, I am a true Anglophile. My biggest British passions are British Mysteries (thank you, Agatha Christie) and the British Royal Family ( except for that one son- but I digress). I have watched every major royal event since I was little, getting up early to watch these events unfold in real time.

The coronation of King Charles is going to be an amazing event and one I cannot wait to watch! Friends, you know I am dressing up for it!!

What to Wear

Now, if I was attending what I would be looking at for the fashion would be all about elegance, sophistication and royalty. The coronation ceremony is a grand event that marks the beginning of a new monarch’s reign, and it is important to dress the part.

Tips for picking the perfect outfit

However, since I am attending from across the pond in spirit I am going to capture the essence of the coronation ceremony. Here are some tips to keep in mind when selecting your coronation fashion if you are participating from home as well.

• Opt for regal colors: Rich, jewel-toned colors like sapphire, and ruby are perfect for conveying a sense of royalty and elegance. Matching the patriotic colors of the British Flag is a great option and you may have some items in your wardrobe already. If not, with all the American patriotic holidays coming up, there is Red, White and Blue everywhere right now!
• While if we were attending we would choose luxurious fabrics: Silk, velvet, and brocade are all excellent choices for coronation attire, as they add a touch of opulence and grandeur to any outfit. For the at home attendee– I say go for linen or light airy fabrics in the colors of the flag.

Accessories

• Don’t forget the accessories: A statement hat is a must for any coronation ensemble, (as are long gloves and elegant heels.) I am passing on the gloves but I ordered a hat! If you have one grab it and wear it!

All about the Shoes

• Keep the shoes elegant, understated and comfy. If we were there, it would be heels for sure, at home maybe these cute slippers or oxfords would do!

Don’t forget the Cocktail!

If you know me, you know a cocktail is in order and this one is perfect. The coronation cocktail! Find the recipe here. This was a cocktail made for the coronation of King Edward VII in 1901. Such a pretty cocktail. I know the coronation will be at 10 am EST so maybe a cup of tea for me instead!

By keeping these tips in mind, you can create a coronation look that is fit for a king or queen.

Remember, dressing for a coronation is about showing respect and honoring the occasion, so it’s important to choose an outfit that makes you feel confident and comfortable while still maintaining an understated elegance. Have a great time- and then keep the look going for the Kentucky Derby later that afternoon!
