Ever wish you could hide your muffin top, maybe in just 3 steps? For years now, we’ve been hearing the myth of the muffin top. Yes, I said myth. It’s not you, or your body- it’s your clothes! Since everyone knows what a “muffin top” is referring to, it must be true. Right?
Uhh… no.
I think it’s easy for most of us to take a flaw in what we are wearing & automatically assume it’s our body. But let’s really look at this issue from a place of truth and objectivity. Not only does one specific style not work for everyone, but holding on to “ I am ___ size” and only picking up items in a certain size can be causing this issue as well.
It seems to me that you can spend a lot of time feeling frustrated or feeling like a failure because you have a closet full of items that aren’t working for you when you’re not the problem!
I know because back when I was training as a Personal Stylist, I was taking a class in Body Shape Analysis. I really didn’t thinkI was going to learn much, sure I am a Pear shape ( I hate the fruit analogies!) To my surprise this class was so much more. This class dug in deep, I mean like weeks deep into this subject and I completely understand why! This

Here’s the thing. Grabbing just anything when you walk in the store, especially as midlife women doesn’t always work out. Why? Here is a mic drop moment for you🎤 not every piece of clothing is for you. That’s right , my friends. Even if it’s your style and your size. If the item is for another body shape you may never get that piece to work for you.

So what can you do to avoid the “muffin top”? Fortunately, there’s a better way! Instead of beating yourself up, lets try something else. Lets spend our time doing something that feels like it’s easy. How would it feel to walk into your closet everyday and feel authentically you? How would you feel if you had a system that is crazy effective at getting dressed in the morning without trying 5- 7 outfits? Well, now you can in 3 easy steps. It doesn’t have to be confusing or overwhelming. Let’s get started!
Three easy steps to dispel the myth of the muffin top and create a muffin
Once I got clear about my ultimate goal: To have a closet that works for me. I wanted to walk into my closet and easily pick out an outfit. AND make it work quickly. AND not waste time. Every…..Single…..Morning, once I got clear on that, the overwhelm stopped! How did I get clear? Learning EVERYTHING about body shape!
Let me ask you
Is there anything worse than running late because you have tried on 5 outfits trying to get dressed? What if I told. you the average woman spends 17 minutes a day trying to get dressed …..yup 17 minutes A DAY! Thats 119 minutes a week! OR 6188 minutes a year ! That is 103 hours
OR
4.3 days getting dressed each year.⬅️

What could you do with an extra 4 days a year? All from knowing your body shape. A closet full of pieces that a curated for your shape. That was a goal of mine. Is is sounding like a good goal for you?
I have spent loads of time researching what clothing works best on each body shape. I even wrote guidebooks for each shape! (Click HERE for more info.) The top thing to do once you know your shape, is to find the items that flatter.
So how to we do this? Here are some suggestions.
While researching I made sure to find the gaps in popular styling, strategies my clients and customers had tried, what seemed to work, as well as what didn’t seem to work.
For example:
Knowing what necklines work best to flatter a Triangle shape ( I use Geometrics vs Fruit) can help to create a proportion that flatters. When you know what flatters what you are trying to enhance and what camouflages what you are trying to hide, getting dressed gets so much easier.
I want to take a moment to be clear when I say there is not a body shape that isn’t amazing and we are not all trying to be “one “ body shape. However, knowledge is power and once you know the HOW of dressing it takes the WHAT am I going to wear out of the equation. All of this information is available in depth in my Style Guide book.
After working with clients I know what worked and what didn’t, I came up with a better way to get the items that flatter in your wardrobe. Ironically, it’s to shop your closet. While we may be shopping incorrectly for our body shape there are usually gems💎 in your closet that work!
That favorite pair of pants are probably your favorite because the waist and the rise are perfect for you. Armed with your new found knowledge of body shape and the items that flatter, go shopping in your closet! Look at it like a store, try stuff on, mix it with items that may make the proportion work. Not only is this a MONEY saver but it’s FUN!!!
